Nicknamed "Plunk" because he kept batters alert, "Big Bill" was a trick ball pitcher for several teams from 1914 to 1930. He played for the 1915 Tennessee Rats, the 1915 All Nations, the 1918-21 St. Louis Giants, the 1922 and 1930 St. Louis Stars, the 1922-1928 Kansas City Monarchs, the 1926 Indianapolis ABC's, the 1926 Dayton Marcos, the 1926 Memphis Red Sox and the 1927 Detroit Stars.
