Gerald H. Secor, 79, a lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, passed away on September 5, 2013, at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck.
Born on April 11, 1934 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mae Walker Secor. Jerry attended F. D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park.
A residential contractor by trade, Jerry took pride and great care in every one of his jobs. He also proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
Jerry attended the Lyall Memorial Federated Church in Millbrook.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and loved anything involving his friends, family, and the outdoors. He was a man who truly loved life and lived it to the fullest on a daily basis. Jerry will be forever missed and never forgotten.
On July 24, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, Jerry married his loving wife, Dolores V. Noonan, and they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Secor survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Gerald W. Secor, and his loving companion, Cynthia R. Pettijohn, of Poughkeepsie.
Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren, Gerald T. Secor, Adam C. Secor and wife, Kylie Mitchell, Stacie L. Secor, and Brittany C. Torelli and husband, Thom; great-grandchildren, Sean D. Secor and Morgan A., Ethan O., and Conner V. Torelli; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Secor also leaves behind countless friends and family, including his sisters-in-law, Merrilyn Moulthrope and husband Tom, and Annabelle Secor; and brother-in-law, Bill Noonan and wife, Barbara, whom he was so fond of.
His friends, Ronny and Emily Foster, and Larry and Eva Cleveland, also survive.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his son, Douglas W. Secor in 2000; and five brothers, Al, Bill, Bob, Don, and Dick.
Dolores and her family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses at Northern Dutchess Hospital for their care and support.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Monday, September 9th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will take place at 11 AM, Tuesday, September 10th, at the Funeral Home. Rev. Donna Frischknecht-Jackson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
Jerry's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Lyall Memorial Federated Church, 30 Maple Ave, Millbrook, NY 12545.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
