Former Winonan Dies of Polio In Paducah
William D Trewolla, 53, highly esteemed former Winona civic leader and funeral director here for 26 years, passed away at the Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky, Saturday morning, August 14, after being stricken a week prior with poliomyelitis.
Services were held in Paducah at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Harris Funeral Home there.
Mr. Trewolla and his family returned to his original home at Paducah in October 1953 to be near his parents, selling Trewolla Funeral Home here which he had operated from 1927 to the fall of 1953, and becoming associated with Harris Funeral Home there.
During his years in Winona, he was an outstanding civic and church leader, served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church president of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions club and, as city alderman for several terms. He also headed numerous charitable and civic drives, was a Mason, a member of the Wahabi Shrine in Jackson and Winona Shrine Club, and a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Location here of one of the city's leading industries was the result of his unfailing friendliness to all.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Emma Trewolla of Paducah: a son, William Page Trewolla of Paducah; two daughters, Mrs. Malcolm Harvey of Baton Rouge, Miss Mary Alice Trewolla of Paducah; a brother, Page Trewolla of Jackson, Miss., and a granddaughter.
