Lura Maude Ailshie Snowden

MORRISTOWN -- Lura Maude Ailshie Snowden, 99, of Morristown, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday at Life Care Center of Morristown.

A native of the McDonald Community in Greene County, she taught Sunday School for decades at Fairview Baptist Church and then at Beulah Baptist Church.

She faithfully attended First United Methodist Church of Morristown during the later years of her life.

She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring friend to all she knew.

A lifelong homemaker, she spent her working life helping her husband, Lloyd, on the farm and later in the operation of the Lloyd Snowden Grocery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years: Lloyd Snowden, and his mother: Charlsie Haun Snowden, who made her home with them; her parents: Alex and Mary Ailshie; 11 brothers and sisters: Grace Ailshie, Virgia Ailshie, Horace Ailshie, Elma Bible, Vannie Ross Ailshie, Martha Lee Porter, Cue Maupin, Neva Brown, Glenn Ailshie, Mary Kathryn Lauten, and Christine Sartin; and a daughter-in-law: Arlene Snowden.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: James and Shirley Snowden of Morristown, Richard and Denzel Snowden of Midway, and Stanley and Patsy Snowden of Morristown; six grandchildren and their spouses: Melodie Snowden of Morristown, Trish and Brian Germano of Marietta, Ga., Scott Snowden of Midway, Angela and Randall Wright of Harrogate, Deanna and Michael Grubbs of Hendersonville, and Tim and Holly Snowden of Alexandria, Va.; nine great-grandchildren: Landen Hartsoe of Olive Branch, Miss., Jennifer Germano of Brownsville, Pa., Alex Wright of Knoxville, Logan Wright and Tori Wright of Harrogate, Mackenley Snowden of Midway, Hannah Grubbs and Sara Grubbs of Hendersonville, and Jack Snowden of Alexandria; three brothers and sisters; James Ailshie of Mohawk, Willie Bailey of Richmond, Va., and Charles Ailshie of Greeneville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7:30 p.m. Friday at First UM Church prior to the funeral service at 7:30 with Dr. Chuck Starks officiating.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
