Gerard served as a Technical Sergeant, 22nd Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kennebec County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 12, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Furrier and also as
Single, without dependents.

He had previously been a member of the U.S. Army.

Gerard was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
