Painter by trade, was the husband of the former Lydia Smith of Middletown, MD (d. 1922). Nine children, George, Charles, Elmer, John, Catherine, Lucy, Leslie, Margaret, and Lawson Alexander. Three of his children are known to be buried in the same cemetery, as are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
