Lars C. Paulsen was born in Denmark to Lars Andreas Paulsen (sometimes spelled Poulsen) and Ane Katrine (Jacobsen) Paulsen. He immigrated to the United States in 1881, when he was about 13 years old, and became a naturalized citizen.

On March 22, 1895, Lars C. Paulsen married Maren Hansine "Sena" Andersen, in Brayton, Iowa. Maren had immigrated from Denmark in 1891, when she was about about 17, and she too had become a naturalized citizen.

Lars completed 8th grade--a notable achievement in those days. He was a farmer all his life.

At the time of the 1910 Census, Maren was called "Sena". The family consisted of
Lars (42)
Sena (36)
Agnes S (14) daughter, born Iowa
Lewis A (11) son, born Nebraska
Freda M (8) daughter, born Nebraska
James A (2) son, born Nebraska.

At the time of the 1930 Census, the family was farming near Cuming, in Washington County, Nebraska. The other children were gone, and only their daughter, Anna Paulsen, age 19, lived with them.

Lars died Sept. 28, 1947, in Omaha, and was buried in Blair, Nebraska.
Maren ("Sena") died in 1954, and was buried beside him.
