Samuel Nichols was the son of Jonathan & Mary Ann (Redinbo) Nichols. The Jonathan Nichols family was living in Shelby County, OH, by at least 1820 and Jonathan's name appears on the 1820 Federal Census for that county. At the time Samuel was born, the family was living in Green Township but later moved to Jackson Township. Jonathan was a farmer and a justice of the peace who presided over numerous marriages in early Shelby County. On August 19, 1847, Samuel Nichols was married to Christena (a.k.a. "Christina") A. Boyer in Shelby County, OH, said marriage being conducted by John Elliott, JP. Christena Boyer was the daughter of Samuel & Christena (Fisher) Boyer who had come to Shelby County from Pennsylvania by way of Fairfield County, OH. Samuel & Christena (Boyer) Nichols parented at least three children: Jonathan Nichols, Joseph F. Nichols, and Lovina (a.k.a. "Lavina") Christina Nichols. Christena (Boyer) Nichols died sometime after March 18, 1852, and on October 23, 1853, Samuel Nichols was married to Mary Furrow, said marriage taking place in neighboring Miami County, OH. Samuel & Mary reportedly parented eight children between the years of 1855 & 1870: Malinda J. Nichols (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), William Milton Nichols, Mathias H. Nichols (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), an infant female who died at birth (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Elizabeth E. Nichols (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Eddie Nichols (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Samuel Nichols Jr., & Etta Margaret "Maggie" Nichols.
