Son of Isaac and Isabella (Ramage) Hershberger. Married Sarah Catherine Miller in 1873. Father of Jennie Kratzer Simington, Ella Baker, Ida, Richard, Emma, William, Mary Ann, Viola Worley, Harry and Charles. His sons and unmarried daughters all went by the spelling variation "Harshberger".
Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, October 5, 1909:
"William Hershberger died at his Hollidaysburg home at 8:40 o'clock last evening of apoplexy. Five years ago he sustained his first stroke, and on Thursday evening after returning from attending the fair at Dell Delight park, was again stricken, his entire right side being effected. The deceased was born at Frankstown, Sept. 25, 1844. When a young man he secured employment at one of the furnaces then located near Hollidaysburg, where he worked for many years. Thirty years ago he was married to Miss Sarah Catherine Miller, who survives, with the following children: William, Mrs. Jennie Simington of Altoona; Mrs. Robert Baker of Hollidaysburg; Richard, Mary, Ollia, Emma, Henry and Charles, all at home. One sister, Mrs. Mary Ling of Frankstown, and ten grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the Church of God and was active in church work. The remains will be taken to Frankstown on the 11 o'clock train Thursday morning and services held in the Lutheran church at Geeseytown. Interment at Geeseytown."
