When Nora Elizabeth Reagan was born on August 28, 1879, in Greene County, Iowa, her father, Patrick, was 46 and her mother, Honora, was 39. Her parents Patrick and Honora Reagan were both from County Mayo, Ireland where they married and had two children before immigrating to Illinois. A brother and two sisters were born in Kankakee County, Illinois, and Nora and her younger sister Anna alone among the children were born after the family moved to Iowa. Nora's mother died just a few years after Nora's birth, and Nora's grandmother, Mary Hughes Fitzpatrick, and her older sister Mary Reagan helped to raise her.

Nora married Frank Ferrell at the Catholic church in Churdan at 9:30 on January 8, 1908. They lived a good part of their early married life in Farlin, settling in Jefferson by the mid-1910s. She died on December 6, 1966, in Jefferson, Iowa, at the age of 87, and was buried there. She was the last person of her family of birth to die. Her husband Frank joined her in death only nine days later. Nora had three children (Donald, Marguerite, and John) and seven grandchildren (Sharon and Gary Farrell; and Danny, Judy, Mike, Patricia, and Jeff Ferrell) during the course of her life. At the time of her death, she had five great grandchildren (Mike, Pat, Laurie, Jeanne, and Shari Meyer.)
