Mrs. E.M. Reed, nee Alma Wishart, who came to Blair for medical treatment last November, died at the residence of Dr. Mortlock last Thursday at one o’clock p.m.
Mrs. Reed came to Blair with her parents in 1878. A few years later going with them to Mo. Valley, Iowa, where in 1891 she was married to E.M. Reed of that city. She had been a sufferer for several years from a complication of diseases and has taken medical treatment from Omaha and Mo. Valley doctors. She was operated on by Fremont and Council Bluffs surgeons assisted by Dr. Mortlock on last Tuesday and found her disease to be tuberculosis of the bowels. She was too weak to survive the shock of the operation and commenced failing rapidly about 11 o’clock and before her mother and sisters could reach her bedside she was unconscious.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 10 o’clock from the residence of her parents, Rev. Richards of the Baptist church officiating and the remains laid to rest in the Blair cemetery.
Her husband and one daughter Mildred, aged seven years, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Wishart, and two sisters, Mrs. A.J. Taylor and Mrs. Annie Beard survive her.
Mrs. F.M. Reed and W.O. Reed, mother and brother of Mr. Reed and H.K. Thayer, a cousin, were present at the funeral, also C.H. Deur and A. Edgecomb of Mo. Valley and E.C. Longman and W.R. Adams of Logan, Iowa. Mrs. Reed at the time of her death was 32 years of age and leaves many friends here and in Mo. Valley who extend to the bereaved family the deepest sympathy.

The Wishart Family
The Wishart family settled in Blair, Nebraska in 1872. In 1880, their family consisted of father, John P.; mother, Maria M.; and daughters, Anna, Jennie, and Elma.
John P's memorial indicated that he and Maria had two other children; a boy and a girl. These two children do not appear to be present in the Blair cemetery, and were also not present with the family in 1880. I feel it is possible they did not make the move with the family to Blair in 1872, and may be buried in Ohio, and possibly in Logan county.
REQ UPDATE: George Wishart, # 13865476, 1861-1862, is the son who is mentioned in J.P.'s obit which predeceased him.
NOTE: John P Wishart was the son of Thomas, # 55305084, and Mary Ann, # 13865351
Elma's Husband and Daughter
Edwin M. Reed* was the son of Romulas Reed, # 104718378 (b most likely in MA, but possibly PA), and Francis (or Frances) May Howe (b ca 1837 in PA). Edwin was born in October of 1867 in Iowa, according to the 1900 census.
In 1880, Frances M Reed, was residing with her sons, William O. and Edwin M., in Glidden, Carroll, Iowa. She was widowed and employed as a seamstress.
Edwin's brother, William O. Reed (b May 1864 in PA per the 1900 census), and Hattie F. Mosher were married on 20 Jun 1895 in Missouri Valley, Harrison, Iowa. Hattie (b ca 1860, MII was the daughter of Joshua Mosher, # 133183952 (b NY), and Harriet M. Haskins (who was deceased prior to 1900).
William and Hattie were residing with Hattie's widowed father in Missouri Valley in 1900. Also residing with them was Hattie's younger sister, Ida A Mosher (b ca 1865 in MI).
Edwin, his mother, Francis, and Edwin's maternal grandmother, Julia Howe, were residing in Glidden, Carroll, Iowa in 1885. Julia Howe was born around 1806 in Connecticut (per the 1880 census).
Edwin M. Reed and Elma L. Wishart were married on February 11, 1891 in Washington County, Nebraska. Mildred Lorraine Reed, seemingly the couples only child, was born on 04 July 1895 in Missouri Valley, Harrison, Iowa, which is where the family made their home.
After Elma's death, Edwin and Mildred returned to Missouri Valley, where they were sharing a home with Edward's mother, Frances / Francis.
In 1930, Edwin M., was residing with his now married daughter, Mildred Lahti, in Mount Harris, Routt, Colorado. Mildred's husband was Victor W. Lahti, who was born around 1890 in Finland.
It appears that Edwin never remarried.
* NOTE: Many records have noted Elma's husband to be Edward M. Reed, but the preponderance of the evidence, including the couples marriage record, note his given name as Edwin.
