ALEXANDER REED'S DEMISE
Alexander Reed of Blair, an old settler of Washington County and brother of Byron Reed of this city, died in Arkansas on Saturday. He was for some years treasurer of the county. The funeral took place at Blair this afternoon.

70 YEARS AGO (FEBR. 28, 1889)
Alex Reed, 56, who had served five terms as Washington County Treasurer, while the county seat was at Fort Calhoun, and later at Blair, died February 21 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, three days after arriving there with his wife on a trip to recover his health. The body of the prominent Blairite was being returned to Blair and services were being held under the direction of the Episcopal Church.

Biographical Information
Alexander Reed was born in New York to Alexander and Betsey Reed who were also both born in New York.
By 1850, he was the lone child living with his parents in Sharon, Walworth, Wisconsin.
Per Vig; Alexander and Mary were married on Feb 21, 1856 in Darien, Wisconsin.
By 1860, 28 year old Alex was living in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
The year 1870 found Alexander living with his wife, Mary L, in Nebraska with no specific location in the state noted. At that time, the had the following children:
Edna N Reed, b ca 1858 in Nebraska
Louisa / Louise S Reed, b ca 1864 in Nebraska
Julia M / L Reed, b ca 1859-60 (7m) in Nebraska
In 1880, the family was located in Blair, Nebraska. Alexander was involved in the real estate business in some capacity, while Mary's occupation was listed as keeping house.
As far as the Reed children go; their eldest known daughter, Edna, was not included as part of this record and may have married. Louise and Julia were still living at home. The Reed's added two more children to the family:
