Thomas Bassett & his son Nathaniel left Cumberland County, Virginia in 1750 and settled near Augusta, Georgia. They took various parcels of land on the Savannah River. Locales mentioned are the Mouth of Lalot's Creek, Mouth of the Little Canaughway, & land 4 miles below the town of Augusta.
Executive Journals of the Council of Colonial Virginia: "On the petition of Thomas Bassett, Nathaniel Bassett, Jr, Thomas Tinsley, Cornelius Tinsley, Peter, John & Thomas Elmore, Leave is granted them to take up 50,000 acres of land to begin in the forks of the Mississippi River (now the Savannah River) and to run up and down both the said Forks and down the main River supposed to lie in Augusta County upon paying down the Rights for the same." There is evidence that this land was being given to them due to military service - see "Soldiers of the South, 1732-1774", Murtie June Clark, p. 572, Genealogical Publishing Company, 1986.
One should note that Thomas Bassett (father)died in Georgia & his son Nathaniel returned to Virginia. He died there in 1794 and is buried in Bassett Cemetery, Henry County, Virginia.
