Brevet major and lt. colonel, August 1, 1864. In command of Indianapolis Arsenal, Indiana, when discharged at own request, September 21, 1870. Businessman. "Harris was a member of the Church, and an earnest, hearty, happy Christian, and engaged in many church and charitable enterprises." A friend wrote, "Colonel Harris was one of God's noblemen; he belonged to His chivalry." Was a son of Congressman Ira Harris.
