Aura Johnson Markert, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, Md. Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Schell City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Garland S. and Daisie Hahn Johnson.

Mrs. Markert was a graduate of Schell City High School, Cottey College and Central State College at Warrensburg, Mo. She taught in the Vernon County Rural schools, Schell City Elementary School and Jennings, Mo., Junior High School. In 1952, she was united in marriage with Marlow A. Markert, who preceded her in death in 2002. She was a member of the Ocean View Presbyterian Church and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Okla. She was active in the work of the church Women's Association, having served as its president from 1961 to 1963 and for many years as a Bible study leader. She had also served as a deaconess. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.

She is survived by a step-daughter and her husband, Marlene and M. Michael Quinn, of Fenwick Island, Del.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at 11 a.m., at Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City, Mo. The Rev. Greg Ferree of the Presbyterian Church in Nevada, Mo., will officiate. A private memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 15, in Fenwick Island, Del.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
