Tra Gene was born in Bienviile Parish and lived in Bossier City from the age of six months. He was a 1939 graduate of Bossier High School and a member of Bellaire Baptist Church. On April 1, 1987 he joined the Bossier City Fire Department as a volunteer fireman. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. After serving his country, he returned home and began serving his city as a fulltime fireman. On November 15, 1951 he was promoted to Assistant Chief and was named "Fireman of the Year" for 1962. Chief Green retired in April of 1966. After his retirement he worked for Sears and Nelson's Auto Parts in Bossier City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ardis Eugene Green and Ethel Green Conly Holley and his brothers, Julius Shepherd Green and Carlton Wallace Green.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 61 years, Joan Self Green; chiidren, Sandra Phipps and husband Lee, Linda Eseman and husband Greg, Sr., Kristy Reutlinger, Michael Green and wife Debbie and Mark Green and wife Leslie all of Bossier City, LA. Tra Gene is also survived by his brother, Ardis Green and wife Sybil of Arcadia, LA.
