FORMER CUSTER RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Amanda Henrietta Carpenter, former resident of Custer County, passed away at her home in Watsonville, California April 28 [1948]. Death was caused by a paralytic stroke. She was ill only about 30 hours. She was born in Custer county December 24, 1874, being the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Knuth, who were among the original colonists who colonized the Wet Mountain Valley in 1870. She was married to Joseph Georges April 15, 1891. To this marriage were born two sons, Louis Georges, who died during childhood, and Ernest H. Georges, of Westcliffe, who survives her. After the death of her husband in 1923, she moved to California where she then established her home. In addition to her son, she is survived by two grandchildren, Irene M. Georges, who is attending Brigham Young University at Provo, Utah, and Marilyn M. Georges, who is in High School, three sisters and other relatives. She was buried in Parajo Valley Memorial Park at Watsonville, California last Saturday afternoon, May 1, at two o-clock.
