According to "A Partial History of the Kyle, Kile, Coyle Family in America" by Orville M. Kile, Robert served in the War of 1812, where he may have contracted the yellow fever that caused his death. War department records show that he was a Captain in a company of riflemen from the 48th Regiment Virginia Militia, from Botetorte Co. A report from the War department that mentions his death lists his father William as his administrator.
