James Franklin Brooks, known by many as "J.B.", 86, of Rohrersville, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland. He had lived in the Rockville and Silver Spring areas before moving to Washington County twenty-two years ago.

Born on September 10, 1924 in Buck Lodge, Maryland, he was the son of the late James E. and Anna Mary (Titus) Brooks.

J.B. was educated at Poolesville High School in Poolesville, Maryland.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a Gunner on Liberty Ships in the U.S. Navy.

J.B. was employed with Safeway, having worked at many stores in the Rockville and Silver Spring areas, and retiring from the store in Wheaton, Maryland.

He was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #371, Frederick, Maryland. James was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife Sally Brooks and his former wife, Margaretta; his three daughters, Brenda Parkinson, Wilma Miller and Glenda Stalknaker and her husband Ron; one son, Allan Brooks and his wife, Sharon; four step-children, Jenny Tygielski and her husband, David, David Edsinger and his wife, Judy, Michael Edsinger and Steven Edsinger and his wife, Betty; two sisters, Helen Brooks and Joyce Nusbaum and her husband, Herb; and his three brothers, Donald Brooks and wife, Eva, Lewis Brooks, and Raymond Brooks and his wife, JoAnn. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. John W. Schildt and Rev. Don Stevenson will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Rohrersville, Maryland.
