He was born in 1896 as Sijtze Talsma in the country village Ferwerd in the northern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, the tenth of eleven children of the 34 years aged carpenter's hand Klaas Talsma and Rinske Polstra.
In 1894 and 1895 two older brothers with the same given name Sijtse were born, but who died at the age of 11 and 3 months.
The family of Klaas G Talsma left on 16 April 1902 their home in Ferwerd for America. Sietze (7 y), his father Klaas [Nicholas] Tolsma (40 y), his mother Rensche (42 y), his siblings Jantje (18 y), Geert (13 y), Jan (16 y), Hiltje (9 y), Lieuwe (4 y) and Tjeerd (2 y) arrived on 28 April 1902 on the SS Ryndam at the port of New York, Ellis Island.
His mother Rensche Polstra died on 24 March 1903, less than a year after their arrival in the USA, in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 43 years.
His father Nicholas Talsma remarried in September 1903 in Chicago at the age of 40 years to the 10 years younger widow Jakoba Stuut [Nieboer], who was born in the Netherlands too, in the northeastern province Groningen.
Sidney Nick Talsma was on 5 June 1918 administrated on a World War I Draft Registration Card. He is residing then in Chicago, 7648 So Loomis St, and is working there for Dick Hoffman.
Sidney Talsma married on 18 December 1919 in Chicago at the age of 23 years to the four years younger Irene Bockstahler, who was born in Illinois. They had on 22 July 1920 in Chicago son Arthur G, on 2 July 1922 son Kenneth and about 1924 Sydney Jr. On 30 March 1930 they had in Chicago a stillborn daughter, who is buried in Mt Auburn Cemetery in Chicago. They were residing then in Oak Lawn, a village adjacent to the western side of the city of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois. In the beginning of 1930 Sidney Talsma (y), his wife Irene (30 y) and their sons Arthur (9 y) and Kenneth (7 y) were residing in the village of Worth, a northwestern suburb of Chicago. Their son Sydney Jr. wasn't mentioned in the Census 1930.
In April 1940 Sidney Talsma (43 y, carpenter), his wife Irene (39 y), their sons Arthur (19 y, new worker), Kenneth (17 y) and Sydney Jr (15 y) resided at an own home, worth $2500, in Crestwood Village, Bremen Township, Cook County, southwest of Chicago, where they lived in 1935.
Sidney Nickolas was in 1942 administrated on a World War II Draft Registrtion Card. He was residing then at 14214 Springfield, Midlothian Village, Cook County, southwest of Chicago.
His wife Irene, who was born on 16 September 1900, died in July 1975 in Cook County at the age of 75 years. Sidney Talsma died in 1984 in Oak Lawn, a village adjacent to the western side of the city of Chicago, at the age of 88 years.
