Dies At Age of 87

Mrs. Peter Jensen Passes Away At Daughter's Home

Mrs. Margaret Jensen was born in Jutland, Denmark, January 11, 1841 and died at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. F. A. Washburn, last Thursday after a lingering illness of about four months duration. The days of her childhood were spent in her native land. In 1866 she was united to Peter A. Jensen and for more than fifty years they enjoyed a happy companionship. Eight children were born to this union, six of whom survive the mother, one son having died in infancy; another son was laid to rest about twenty-seven years ago.

In 1874 the deceased with her husband came to America and settled on a farm eight miles west of this city where the family lived for many years. About thirty years ago the family removed to this city. In 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Jensen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on which occasion all of the children then living were present. The husband passed away in 1917 and since that time the deceased has made her home with her daughter who cared for the mother that her declining years might be spent in comfort.

The children surviving her are: J. M. Jensen of Arnolds Park, Iowa, Mrs. Annie Nay of Ashville, North Carolina, Mrs. Sabina Erntsen of Salem, Oregon, P. E. Jensen of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Mullen, Nebr., and Mrs. Emma Washburn of this city. Four of the children were in attendance at the funeral. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Soren Jensen, of this city.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock after which interment was made in Blair cemetery. Her six nephews, J. P., Nels M., Andrew G., Henry, Ed, and Albert Jensen acted as pall bearers.
