Dr. Frank Chappell Ogg, 77 of 1356 Conneaut Ave., professor emeritus of mathematics at Bowling Green State University, died Wednesday evening in Wood County Hospital.

After four years as an instructor in mathematics at the University of Illinois and one summer on the staff of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, he joined the department of mathematics at what was then Bowling Green State College in 1931 as associate professor. He was chairman for many years of the Research Committee and general chairman of the 50th Anniversary celebration of Bowling Green State University in 1960 which brought many nationally prominent persons to the campus. He was acting dean of the College of Liberal Arts in he summers of 1946 and 1947. After retirement in 1969, the Board of Trustees decreed that the divisional library of Mathematics and the Sciences in the new Mathematical Sciences building be named the "Frank C. Ogg Library of Mathematics and Science." The library, which has a 150,000 volume capacity, was officially named on Nov. 14, 1970 when the building was dedicated. A lifelong interest in the history of science and a belief in the importance of a fine library was also shown in a gift from Dr. and Mrs.Ogg which enabled the University Library in 1966 to purchase three rare books by Galileo.
Dr. Ogg was a member of the Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi honorary fraternities and of the mathematics honoraries Pi Mu Epsilon and Kappa Mu Epsilon. He was a Sigma Chi, a member of the Town and Gown Club of Bowling Green and of the Toledo Chapter of Torch International. He also was a member of the American Association of University Professors, the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America. He was an Army veteran of World. War I.
Dr. Ogg was born Feb. 3,1899 in Richmond, Va., to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Ogg (Marcie Chappell). He married Florence Sutton July 14, 1928 in Neoga, Ill.
