Maynard Matherly son of Celia Jane Sumner and Daniel Richmond Matherly married Abalene Knight in 1922. They had a son Veynell, (b. 19 May 1924 d. 5 Aug 1924)

Maynard was a miner in the Beech Creek area. He died of typhoid fever. The 1920 census has him divorced and a nine year old boy living with him named Forrest. He is renting a home in Skilesville. The 1930 census has him living with Abalene and his sister-in-law Bessie Knight, age 55.
