HAZEL BENNETT COOK
EUREKA, Calif. - Hazel B. Cook passed away on June 19, 2009.
She was born April 5, 1921 in Kenilworth to Walter and Martha Bennett. Her family moved from Utah to Pennsylvania, where she went to school.
She married Ervin (Ren) Cook on Feb. 16, 1947 in Dragerton. They lived there for 17 years and were members of the Dragerton Community Church.
They raised four sons, Van, Ervin (Lane), Mark and Monte Cook in Dragerton, where Ervin worked at the Columbia coal mine and she worked at the Dragerton Department Store.
In 1967, the mine closed down and they moved to Eureka, Calif., and joined the First Covenant Church in Eureka.
Hazel worked at Shafer's Hardware for 14 years before retiring.
She is survived by her two sons, Van and wife Kathy Cook of Eureka, Calif.; Monte and wife Mary Lou Cook of Arcata, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Mark's wife, Sue Cook of Eureka, Calif.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ervin (Ren) Cook; her sons, Ervin (Lane) and Mark Cook; her mother and dad; two brothers, Walter and Howard Bennett; four sisters, Merle VanWagoner, Eva Rose, Doris Poulos and Florence Hawkins.
The family would like the thank the staff at Timber Ridge in Eureka, Calif., for their care and kindness.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E. Street in Eureka, Calif. Graveside service will be Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, Calif. Services will follow at the First Covenant Church, 2526 J Street, Eureka, Calif. Family and friends are invited to the Peterson House after the services for refreshments.
