"On the 1870 Anne Arundel Co., MD census, I found store keeper George W Dowel, 37 and his Dowels: (female) Francis, 38; Eugenia, 17; Mary, 15; John, 14; Georgeanna, 12; Elizabeth, 12; ; Robert Lee, 6; William, 1; plus domestic servant, Rose Johnson, 40, all MD born.
"His 1st wife, Frances Virginia Whittington, died on 3 May 1873.
"On the 1880 Baltimore, MD census, I found store keeper Geo Dowell, 47; wife and seamstress, Ellen, 32; daughter Mary, 25; son& bartender John, 23; wife & bar_ling Agmus, 21; daughter Elizabeth, 20; son harness maker Robert, 17; son William, 12 and daughter Lillie, 4, all “MD” born.
"I did not find George in 1900, so he died between 1881 and 1900.
