Lloyd P. Weems, Retired Postmaster, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 in Delhi, LA. Services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Dunn Baptist Church in Dunn, LA with Pastor Eddie Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi. Mr. Weems was born March 4, 1933 in Mangham (Richland Parish).
Mr. Weems was preceded in death by parents Samuel and Martha Curry Weems, sisters Eula Baum, Eunice Linder and brothers Elbert Shirley, Albert Weems and C. W. Weems.
He is survived by wife Barbara Geiser Weems of Delhi, LA; daughters and sons-in-law: Dr. Linda and Joey Hebert of Palmetto, LA, Brenda and Brian West of Augusta, GA, Sarah and Randy Almond of Ruston, LA, Andrea and Bryan Holmes of Delhi, LA; grandchildren: Ashley Granger and husband Traye of Alexandria, LA, Josh Wilson of Baton Rouge, LA, Sarah Beth Almond and Michael Almond of Ruston, LA, Rachel Holmes and Tyler Holmes of Delhi, LA.
Mr. Weems is survived by brothers: Ordrie Shirley and wife Myrtle and Grady Shirley of Winnsboro, LA, Luther Weems and wife Doris and Clinton Weems and wife Sallie Ruth of Delhi, LA; sisters: Audie Mercer of Mangham, LA, Vaudie Upton and husband James of Delhi, LA, and Myrtle McVay of Bastrop, LA; sister-in-law: Pearlie Weems of Delhi, LA; brothers-in-law: Richard Geiser and wife Mary of Oshkosh, WI, and Kenneth Geiser and wife Teresa of Plano, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Weems served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the Dunn Baptist Church. He retired after 28 years with the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster at the Delhi, LA 71232 office and was a member of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS). Mr. Weems was a 41 year member of the Delhi Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief from 1981 to 1996 and was a charter member and driver of the Delhi Ambulance Association for 23 years. He volunteered as a coach, board member and treasurer of the Delhi Dixie Boys Baseball and coach for the Delhi Dixie Girls Softball.
Members of the Delhi Volunteer Fire Department, Clay Cooper, Ken Hall, Jay Jones, Josh Jones, David Hale and Martie Croft will serve as pallbearers.
Any planned memorials may be made to the Delhi Fire Department.
