Geraldine was born to:

Wesley Essington Beal and Mary Arminta Bird

Geraldine grew up in Rawlins and Thomas counties, Kansas and graduated from high school in Colby, Kansas. After high school, she traveled with friends and family while corresponding with brothers and cousins who were serving in the military during WWII. She worked several jobs before getting married. Geraldine met Harold Mayer while employed as a civilian office worker for U.S. Army in California during WWII. Geraldine and Harold were married on May 18, 1946 and moved to Illinois. The couple lived in Peoria until buying a house in Rome, Illinois ten miles north of Peoria. A daughter, Donna, was born in 1949. The family moved back to Peoria before Donna started to kindergarten. Geraldine was active as a room mother while Donna was in grade school. Geraldine helped with her daughter's Brownie & Girl Scout troop activities. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed many hobbies including; reading, sewing and crafts of many types.

The picture is of Geraldine and her younger brother Wesley. Wesley died in Sept 1943 in North Africa during WWII.
