Vernon E. Mounts
Vern was born May 11, 1936 in Auburn, WA to Neil and Maurine Mounts and passed peacefully on June 28, 2013 from a long and hard battle with kidney disease. He had been an airman in the Naval Reserves after graduation. He had worked for the railroad and Dray and Moore Auto Sales before hiring on at Boeing in 1958. Vern lived in Auburn his entire life and raised his family there. He retired in 1995 as a systems analyst after 36 years with the company.
He was one of the founding members of the Green River Steelhead-Trout Club and loved the family outings and Saturday night potlucks. He had been a member of the Auburn J.C's and chaperoned two Miss Auburns. Also, a member of the R.M.E.F., N.R.A., the F.O.E., High Cedars and Lake Tapps Mens Club. He coached peewee football, played in a mens fast pitch league as well as a Boeing slow pitch keg league. Vern was an avid fisherman and hunter, having taught firearm safety classes with Pop. He like to golf, garden and go camping. He took up intarsia when he could no longer do the outdoor things that he loved.
Vern was predeceased by both parents; a brother Gary and niece Julie Ann. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carlene; 3 sons, David (Cyndy) of Auburn, Steven (Hallie) of Keizer, OR, and Eric of Auburn; brother, William of Renton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dustin, Kehla, Dominique, Ashlee, Elena, Dillon, and Dakota; four great-grandchildren, Kadon, Karah, Bradlee, Kwynn and a very reliable source said he already met his 5th great-grandchild Gabriel who is due in August. Also surviving him are several nieces, nephews, cousins, wonderful neighbors, lifelong friends of the A.H.S. Class of 1954 and his ever faithful shadow Shelby.
At his request there were no services. He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered where he and Pop hunted every year.
The family requests any remembrances be made to the A.D.A. (American Diabetes Association). Address 2815 Eastlake Ave. East #240, Seattle, WA 98102. Phone number (206)282-4616.
