| Birth: | Oct. 30, 1779 Newburgh Orange County New York, USA | | Death: | Feb. 20, 1844 Franklin (Sussex County) Sussex County New Jersey, USA |  US Congressman. Educated as a physician at the Pennsylvania Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he practiced medicine in Hamburg and Franklin, New Jersey until 1827. That year he was elected as a Jacksonian to represent New Jersey as an At-Large Delegate in the United States House of Representatives, serving from March 4, 1833 to March 3, 1837. He developed the Franklin Furnace Iron Works in Franklin, New Jersey, which was one of the largest ore producers during it's time. He discovered two minerals - fowlerite and franklinite. He was the father of Civil War Union Officer Colonel Samuel Fowler (1818 to 1865), and the grandfather of New Jersey Democratic Congressman Samuel Fowler (1851 to 1919).
