Alta Davis Nelson, 94 of Springville, passed away peacefully Friday, May 19, 2006 at Art City Nursing Care Center, due to her age. She was born to Jesse Carlyle Davis and Sara Jane England Davis, at Union, Oregon on Dec. 5, 1911. She was the fourth of four children. She married Wray C. Nelson on Feb. 16, 1929 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, April 6, 1932. Wray passed away Nov. 7, 1978 due to a heart attack.

Alta grew up in Payson and Logan, UT, where she met and married her husband Wray. She enjoyed camping with her family, and other activities.

She did a lot of crocheting, and was very good at it. She crocheted each of her children a beautiful afghan, also many doilies. She crocheted all of her grandchildren afghans and quilts. She hand made many quilts and was a beautiful quilter. She enjoyed doing Genealogy and later she began working in the German Extraction program. She loved this work and was able to do it for 10 yrs., but was unable to continue because of her health. She kept books for their family business (Nelson Furnace Co.) which her and Wray owned and operated for many years.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many callings through out her life. She was a faithful Visiting Teacher and loved it. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years. She made many friends there & enjoyed their friendship each month.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wray; two daughters, Louise Nelson & LaRae Nelson Stallings; one brother, Glen Davis; two sisters, Vivian Averett & Fern Bowen; two grandchildren, Michael Nielson & Kelly Stallings. She is survived by a son, LaVar (Ellen) Nelson and one daughter, Sherel (Gordon) Nielson. She leaves behind 13 beloved grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and several great, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews; brothers & sisters-in-law, Theora Nelson, Wanda & Val Zahler, Ron Johnson, Emma Jean Nelson, and Deone & Kenneth Nelson.

Services will be held Monday, May 22, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek West Stake Center at 555 South Averett Ave. in Springville. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville or Monday at the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery
