DONGOLA - Jacquie Eddleman, 77, died at 11:28 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Dongola, the daughter of Frank and Helen Marie (Plott) Kimber.
She married Jack Eddleman on June 15, 1957. He survives.
Jacquie earned a bachelor's degree from SIUC in 1958. She later earned a master's degree and doctorate from SIUC, during which time she taught at Royalton High School for one year and Dongola High School for 10 years. Upon her completion of her doctorate, she took a job at SIUC where she taught, conducted researched, and served as a principal investigator for an externally funded project in the field of early childhood education until her retirement in 1992.
Upon retirement, Jacquie stayed very busy, as she served on a number of local, state and national agency advisory councils including Cooperative Extension, Union County Hospital and Illinois Barn Alliance. An animal lover, she was a founding member of PAWS. Starting in 1960, she averaged about 35 dogs and 25 cats at any one time that she was caring for at her home. She was an Americorps VISTA Volunteer, and Americorps Promise Fellow.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; one brother, Robert Kimber of Dongola; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Joe) Frick of Jonesboro; one nephew, Brian Joe Frick; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one aunt, Elaine Rushing.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Crain Funeral Home in Dongola and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Lutheran Church of Dongola. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Tim Heinecke officiating. Inurnment will be later in St. John's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to PAWS and will be accepted at the funeral home and church.
