Spc. Nicholas B. Burley, 22, of Red Bluff, Calif., died July 30, in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. Nicholas is survived by his mother Tammy Kneebone of Red Bluff, and father Mike Burley of Foresthill; brothers Michael Collins (Heather), Zachary Miller and Will Burley; grandparents: Joe and Judy Gregonis, Ed and Marcia Kneebone, Carole LaDue and Bill Burley; extended family includes: Jesse Davis, Jeremy Davis, Leila Collins, Dominic Collins, Cindy Nelson, Don and Donna Bostwick, Sean and Lindsey Staples, Andrew and Joanna Bostwick and Christine Bostwick. Nicholas was a member of American Legion Post 587 in Foresthill and One Track Mind Snowmobile Assoc. Nick also loved spending time riding horses with his mother. Services to be held 10 a.m. August 13, 2013 in Nevada City at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary followed by a public celebration of his life at 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 587 in Foresthill. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations for care packages to Nicholas's platoon. Contact American Legion Hall in Foresthill or the Military Outreach at Bayside Church, Granite Bay.
