DANVILLE, Va. - Henry Hampton Hogan, 83, of 168 Westminister Court, died Monday, November 21, 2005 at Riverside Health and Rehab Center.
Born April 13, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Charlie Hogan and Maggie Ramsey Hogan.
He lived most of his life in Danville and was owner/operator of Hogan Distributing Company.
He volunteered in the U.S. Army soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II and served in active duty in the European and Pacific Theatres.
He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and of the Round Table Sunday school class. He was active in the Jaycees, district deputy of the Elks Club, a member of the VFW, and a member of American Legion Post 325. In addition, he was a member of the Morotock Lodge of Masons, Shriners ACCA Temple, the German Club and the Young Mens Club.
He was a trustee of Averett College and past president of the Viginia Malt Beverage Association and the State Wine Dealers Association.
He was married to Mildred (Peggy) Chaney Collins Hogan.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by one son, Michael Oliver Hogan and wife, Patricia of Charlotte, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Ashley Hogan Staphos and husband, Sam of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Eli O. Hogan, Roy Hogan, Ovid Hogan and Irvin Hogan; and four sisters, Arlene Gravett, Zelma Ashley, Adeline Meshenick, and Meliddi Hogan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Jackson and the Rev. Joe Northen officiating. A private interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery.
Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
