George Haun, 90, Dead, Father of Rev. Julius Haun
George Haun, 90, 419 Olmstead street, died at 12:20 a.m. today at the Winona General Hospital after an illness of three months. Death was due to the infirmities of age.
Mr. Haun was the father of the Rt. Rev. Julius W. Haun, head of the English department at St. Mary's college. He also is survived by this wife; four other sons, George and Edward, Winona; Frank, Chicago and Albert, St. Paul; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Smith (Lillian) and Mrs. John Hoffman (Magaret), Winona, and Mrs. Josephine Macgurm, Flagstaff, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
One son, William Haun, died in 1948 and a daughter, Helen, died when a year and a half old in 1895.
Mr. Haun was born in Bavaria, Germany, May 16, 1860, and came to this country in 1881, settling first near Norwalk, Wis., where he engaged in the stonecutting trade. He came to Winona in 1891, working first as a stone cutter and later operating his own stone quarry. His quarry provided stone for many local buildings. He retired at the age of 70.
He was a member of St. Joseph's society of st. Joseph's church for more than 50 years.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kelly Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. at the funeral home by the Rt. Rev. Joseph hale and St. Joseph's society.
