NOTES: In Sept. 1942, Dick was in the cadre that started up the 455th AAA Bn. He was in the battalion Motor Pool...In Normandy, France in July 1944, his crew was inspecting Battery 'D' vehicles when German 88s fired shells at them. They dove for their foxholes....Dick received the Good Conduct Medal at 455th AAA HQ on Oct. 15, 1944...Dick was a driver for Lt. Col. Charles H. Sargent, Jr. and went with the Col. to Paris on one trip...

Dick was one of the first men to meet for 455th reunions in Nashville, TN in the 1960s. He and his wife, Faye, kept the reunions going (after Buford Devers was no longer able to do the planning for the annual events). When Dick passed away, his wife Faye continued the reunions until she too passed away. Brenda Scalf-Burchfield then took over the planning until 2012 (the 60th anniversary of the formation of the unit), when the reunions finally disbanded for good.
