Mrs. Martha A. Fisher, a well-known resident of Blair for many years, widow of Homer Fisher, who died at the Grand Island Soldiers' Home last year, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. D. I. Hayden, at Council Bluffs, IA, on last Wednesday morning at 6:15. Death was caused by cancer of the breast (Sarcoma), complicated with ailments incident to her advanced age, 76 years. She leaves, besides her sister at Council Bluffs, a brother at Amherst, Mass., they being the sole surviving relatives. Her only child, Edward, was brought here a couple of years ago in the last stages of consumption and died at his mother's home in this city. Mrs. Fisher had lived alone in her home, on east Washington Street, in this city, until unable to wait on her and had been a great sufferer. E. C. Pierce went to Council Bluffs Wednesday forenoon and brought the body here and the funeral was held Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Martha took on the spelling Fischer when she and Homer married, and gave that to the son. Homer never officially "corrected" his own last name; his father was Fisher. So he is buried under his given name of Fisher.
