Mrs. Barbara M. Gannon, one of the old settlers of Macon county, died at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at her home, 920 North Clinton street. She was eighty-four years old. Her death was due to the infirmities of age. Her name before marriage was Carver. She was born in Dauphin county, Pa., Oct. 19, 1837. When a child she came to Illinois with her father's family, and his brothers, John, Jacob and Samuel Carver, and John Gepford, father of J. F. Gepford, superintendent of the Macon County home.

Mrs. Gannon was the oldest member of the Garver family association and was well known in Oreana and among old settlers all over the county.
She was active in Red Cross work during the Civil war, and was commissioned by Governor Yates to go to Vicksburg as an army nurse in Union camps. She knew President Lincoln and attended hfs funeral. After the war Mrs. Gannon was often associated with Mrs. Jane M. Jones in relief work.
HERE FIFTY YEARS
Mrs. Gannon came to Decatur many years ago, and for the last fifty years resided in the house in which her death occurred Tuesday.
Mrs. Gannon is survived by a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Duncan of Decatur, and one son, J. C. Gannon of St. Louis. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Anna M. Jones of Decatur. The body was removed to the Dawson and Wikoff undertaking establishment and prepared for burial.
