J. W. ERWIN DIED SUNDAY

PASSED AWAY AT THE HOME OF HIS DAUGHTER, MRS. CALDWELL, IN OMAHA AND FUNERAL TODAY

J.W. Erwin passed away at the home his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Caldwell, at 2:30 Sunday morning, August 26th, from diseases incident to old age, he being almost 84 years old. He was taken sick on a trip he made to Illinois with Mrs. Etta Brandt of this city, and upon their return to Omaha he was taken to the Caldwell home, never being able to get back to Blair.

The body was brought up from Omaha today and the funeral held at his own home at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. Carl G. Bader officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery by the side of his wife, whose death occurred a little over a year ago.

James Wesley Erwin was born near Columbus, Ohio, Sept. 5th, 1844, so was almost 84 years of age. When he was yet a small boy the family moved to Sangamon county, Ill., where they lived for some time, later moving to a farm near Farmer City, Ill., where he grew to manhood's estate.

He was united in marriage to Miss Frances Arnold, April 19th, 1868, and four children were born to them; one son, John Walter died at the age of three years. Those surviving are Elsie, Mrs. George McBride of this city; Anna, Mrs. W.E. Caldwell of Omaha; and Allan Erwin of Hutchinson, Kans., all of whom were present for the funeral services.

The family came to this county in 1880 and settled on a farm in the March school district, about seven miles southwest of Blair, where they lived until 1902, when they moved to this city, purchasing the J.C.W. Kline residence at the corner of 2nd and Grant streets.

Mr. Erwin was a quiet kindly man who won and held the respect and confidence of all who knew him. He had been slowly failing in health since the death of his wife in May of 1927, but was patient and thoughtful of others until the end came peacefully.

The bereaved families have the sincere sympathy of their many friends.
