Married Jan 27 1961
Mother of Patricia Ann Moore and
Kathy Gaines
Elizabeth L. "Betty" Rodgers, 95, passed away July 23, 2013. Born as Elizabeth Lyda Hall in Chattaroy, W.Va., on April 5, 1918, to Claude Allie Hall from Ky. and Martealie Curry of W.Va. Preceded in death by her husbands, Allan Rodgers of 41 years and Wilber M. Schmoldt of 15 years; daughter, Patricia Ann Moore; and ten brothers and sisters. Survived by her daughter, Kathleen (James W.) Gaines; son-in-law, Charles W. Moore; daughter-in-law, Iva Mae Moore; four grandsons, Daniel Charles Moore, David Allan Moore, Dennis (Angela) Moore and Darren Joshua Moore; two sisters, Allie Mae Evans and Inez Larsen; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Betty was affectionately called "the Energizer Bunny" because she kept going and going, at breakneck speed, all throughout her life. Her passions and hobbies were bowling (she has so many trophies and awards over a 50-year span that they can't be counted or even all found), she had a 187 average in a traveling league while in her 70s; she loved to do ballroom dancing (she and Al were known and watched by others for their gracefulness and poise); when she had a "spare moment" she looked forward to playing bingo (she rarely won, but would keep going back anyway); and probably one of the most important and continuing past times was playing cards with family and friends (she would rather play games than eat or do anything else), and she loved her little Chihuahua, Pepe, who was her constant and faithful friend and companion for the last ten years after Al passed away. She attended Belmont Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful participant of the 700 Club. If anyone would like to do something special on her behalf, she would love for you to do something for someone else, perhaps help out someone in need, or take the time to make a "how are you doing" phone call to someone, or send a card to a friend or acquaintance whom you haven't seen for a while, or maybe take somebody out to dinner, just because it seems like a nice thing to do. There will be no viewing. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at Belmont Church of the Nazarene, 1702 Bonforte Blvd., with Pastor Bob Simms officiating. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice through the funeral home.
