Wednesday morning, death brought welcome release to a respected citizen of the Hector community, when Carl Oscar Carlson of Martinsburg township passed away after an illness of a year. Last spring he underwent an operation for cancer, which relieved him for a time, but since fall he has failed rapidly.
He was born in Varo parish, Halland Province, Sweden, Sept 8, 1873, the son of Carl Johan Christenson and his wife, Anna Christina. He came to this country in 1891, spending five years at Spencer, Iowa and coming to this community New Years Day, 1897, and moved to the farm on which he has lived ever since in the spring of that year. He was married to Anna Louise Carlson May 8, 1897. Seven children were born to them, all whom survive: Mollie, of Minneapolis; Anton, Hildur, Ebba, and Edward of Hector, Blanche (Mrs.. Roy Peterson); and Lewis of Minneapolis. Mrs. Carlson passed away Oct 10, 1908 leaving Mr. Carlson with a family of seven small children to whom he has been both father and mother.
Beside the children, he is survived by three grandchildren and three brothers: Ben of Yakima, Washington, August of Portland, Ore, and Erick of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Mr. Carlson has been a member of the First Lutheran church since coming to this community and has taken an active part in its affairs, serving as trustee nearly the whole time, and as treasurer two different times. He was a regular attendant at the services.
The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church.
