He was the lead singer and songwriter for the "Chi-lites", the soul super group named after the city they grew up in, Chicago. The Chi-lites had a string of hits in the 1970s such as “Have You Seen Her”, “Oh Girl” and “Coldest Day of My Life”. The Chi-lites performed together until 1988 when Eugene Record left the group to devote his life as a born-again Christian. He had recorded some gospel music and was preparing to release a new gospel release, “Let Him In”, when he passed away.
