Verna Lynn Hinton, 91, died Friday in Hurricane. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 274 S. 100 West, Hurricane. V isitations will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements are by SereniCare Funeral Home, 986-2085, www. SereniCareofStGeorge.com.

Verna Lynn Shumway Hinton of Hurricane, UT- has left this earthly life to join with her beloved husband Carlon Hinton, her parents Richard Franklin Shumway and Mary Wilson Shumway. Eight brothers and sisters, one daughter in law, Carol Ann Hinton, and great grandchildren Kate Lawton and Grant Nelson are also there to greet her in heaven.

She will be greatly missed by her eight children Marylin [Lane] Shumway; Adrian [Michelle] Hinton; Wilma [Donald] Larson; Phyllis [Gregory] Lawton; Don Hinton; Richard [Kathleen] Hinton; Melea [Stan] Jones; and Verlin [Lance] Leavitt, and a total posterity of 227.

Verna was born November 25, 1921, in Tropic, Utah. She grew up in Kanab, and Tropic. Her family moved to St. George, Utah when her parents were called on a mission to the St. George Temple. Verna graduated from Dixie High School. She married Carlon Hinton September 7, 1940 in the St.George Temple. They moved to Arizona where they farmed for 29 years before returning to Hurricane. Verna was active in the Lady Lions, the P.T.A., the Color Country Book Club, a volunteer at the Hurricane Pioneer Museum, and active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in many different callings. She especially enjoyed the 11 years she and Carlon spent working in the St. George Temple, and serving two full time missions.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 27, 2013, at 11:00a.m. at the LDS church on 274 S. 100 W. Hurricane, UT. Visitations will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery.
