Thomas and Amanda weere highly intelligent people and were well-educated for their day. Thomas had attended Brigham Young Academy, and Amanda attended the University of Utah. They had a fine library of books of the classics and other good literature. A great pleasure was to curl up in Grandpa's huge brown leather chair and read for hours. National Geographic magazines had been collected for years.
Thomas had beautiful wavy silver hair and twinkling brown eyes. He was a tall, powerfully built man with great strength in his shoulders and arms. After arthritis crippled him and made his legs nearly useless, these strong arms, an indomitable spirit, and two canes kept him mobile. Although he was always in pain, he never complained, but laughed at his infirmities. He forced himself to move about and do his chores and to be as helpful as possible in caring for himself. To the end his keep mind was alert and interested in the people around him, politics, current events, and the welfare of his family.
Their greatest desire, was for their family members to remain close and to cherish their testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They lived their religion every day of their lives. It was a natural part of their existence.
