Deceased Name: James Michael Derossett: 20-year-old man dies in car accident
SIX MILE - A head-on collision in Pickens County claimed the life of one Six Mile man and sent another to the hospital on Saturday, officials said.
James Michael Derossett, 20, of 208 Ike Road in Six Mile, was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead. Shaw Phelps, 18, of Old Keowee Church Road, was taken to the same hospital and was treated and released.
The accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m. on S.C. 133, near S.C. 183 and Booger Branch Road between Six Mile and Pickens. According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Dan Marsceau, the collision between Mr. Derossett's 1999 Chevy Pickup and Mr. Phelps 1981 GMC Pickup caused extensive damage.
According to Pickens County Deputy Coroner Philip Snow, Mr. Derosett's vehicle was traveling north on S.C. 133 and Mr. Phelps was traveling south when the accident occurred.
Mr. Snow said neither driver was wearing a seat belt. Mr. Marsceau said the accident was still under investigation.
Mr. Marsceau said the air bag on Mr. Derossett's car deployed. Mr. Snow said Mr. Derossett was entrapped in the vehicle....
