Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point for Mary Meche Melancon, 95, who passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at 8:00 PM at Lafayette General Hospital in Lafayette. Very Rev. Msgr. Jeff DeBlanc will be officiating the services.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Melancon of Lafayette; three sons, Norwood and wife, Mary Meche of Lafayette, Alvin Meche of Livingston and Ancy and wife, Belinda Meche of Carencro; two daughters, Marie and husband, Elton Abshire of Lafayette and Judy and husband, David Gautreaux of Breaux Bridge; seventeen grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Edmond Meche; two grandsons, Bryan and Sean Meche; one grand-daughter, Lisa Meche; one son, Lesley Meche; her parents, Henry and Pauline Sonnier; four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 9:00 AM until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM in the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Church Point on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Burial will be in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church Old Cemetery in Church Point under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home, L.L.C.
