Born in Grasheim, Karlshuld bei Neuberg, Bavaria, son of Ignatz and Seraphina (Winnegger) Ebenhoch. Immigrated to the U.S. on 2 June 1890 with two of his sisters on the ship Waesland. Married 17 Nov. 1896 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Akron to Carolina Schaaf. Eleven children, six lived to adulthood. (See under father in this same cemetery for family photo).
Akron Beacon Journal, 11 Feb. 1960:
"JACOB EBENHOCH, 86, O'NEIL EMPLOYE, DIES
A retired employe of the M. O'Neil Co. furniture department, Jacob "Charlie" Ebenhoch, 86, of 200 Pfeiffer st., died Wednesday.
Mr. Ebenhoch, who got his nickname while at O'Neils, retired in 1946 with 25 years service.
He was born in Bavaria, Germany, and came to Akron 70 years ago. He got his first job here at the old Akron Belt Works near Cherry and Howard sts.
Later he worked for the Diamond Rubber Co., before it was taken over by the B.F. Goodrich Co. He was an employe of the old Kelly Springfield Rubber Co. for 26 years before joining O'Neils.
Mr. Ebenhoch was a member of the O'Neil Twenty-five Year Club; the Sons of Herman; the Bayern-Verein and YMCA Golden Ager Club.
He leaves three sons, Joseph, Jacob Jr. and Clarence; a daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Marlin; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Services are being arranged at the Hummel Funeral Home where friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday."
