Derek Marlowe
Birth: May 21, 1938
Death: Nov. 14, 1996

British author and scriptwriter. He was born in Perivale, Middlesex, and educated at Cardinal Vaughan's School and at Queen Mary's College in London. He was the author of nine novels, several of which were filmed, notably "A Dandy in Aspic" and "The Disappearance." After the break-up of his marriage, he moved to Los Angeles, where he wrote several television scripts, notably one for "Murder She Wrote," but was contemplating a move back to England, where he hoped to complete a tenth novel, "Black and White." Unfortunately, he developed leukaemia, and died of a brain hemorrhage while under treatment. He was cremated in California, but his ashes were brought back to England by his sister, Alda, and buried in his father's grave near Hastings. The grave is on the North-Western boundary of the churchyard, about fifty yards behind the church. (bio by: Iain MacFarlaine)
