Pvt. Davis served in Company H of the 8th Cavalry Regiment of Illinois during the Civil War. He died in a New York Hospital from illness.
Article from the "Woodstock Sentinel" July 9, 1862:
"Mr. Davis Burr, one of the members of the McHenry County Cavalry, was brought home a corpse on the 3d inst. He died in the New York Hospital of fever, his brother Wm. A. being with him at the time. Deceased was buried on the fourth. He was about 20 years of age. Funeral sermon will be preached at Queen Ann M.E. Church on sunday morning next."
