Emil enjoyed helping his parents on the farm, regularly attending mass and time spent serving as an Altar boy. He was taught by the Sisters of Notre Dame who inspired him to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. During WWII, Emil served in the U.S. Navy as a cook and a baker. On June 18, 1952 he was united in marriage to Patricia Lampert, in Bowlus, MN. Emil was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, devout Catholic and lifelong educator. Emil was a principal at Garfield and Lowell Elementary Schools in Brainerd for many years. After retirement, Emil and Patricia enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their summer home on Sylvan Lake, near Pillager, MN and wintered in Green Valley, AZ before returning to Brainerd in 2006. He had resided with his daughter Karen for the last 3 years, in Rochester, MN. The family would like to acknowledge the assistance in care of Emil by Jackie and Tom Maier, Adult Services of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia; brothers, Jack, Valentine, Ralph and his sisters, Mathilda and Jean.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen; son, David (Deb); grandchildren: Ryan and Jessica; sister, Helen Dassinger; and many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws.
Internment at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
