Claude Raymond Swartz was born February 7, 1886 at Wenona, Ill. To Albert and Frances Swartz. His childhood was spent at Wenona and he came to Iowa with his parents, sister and brother in 1899. The family came to Emmet county in1900, where Mr. Swartz had since made his home.
He was married March 28, 1917 to Ruth Ella Thornton of Danfur, Minn. Three children were born to them, Mary, Robert and Howard. Robert, who has been in the armed services, has recently received an honorable discharge from the army to assist his father in farming.
He was a member of the Gruver Presbyterian church, being an elder for many years.
His parents and a sister, Mrs. Grace Marcue, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Wesley Holl; two sons, Robert and Howard, both at home; five brothers, Ira, Will and Lester of Estherville, Frank of Terril and Lawrence of Maple Hill; and two grandchildren, Alan and Janet Holl.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Swartz home at 1:30 and at 2 o'clock at the Gruver Presbyterian church with the Rev. Albert Husted officiating.
